Ideas to implement - Suggestions

Post  DarkRequiem on Fri Aug 22, 2008 4:45 pm

Guys, in another Magic forum I go to there's a game called 3 Card Blind (3CB). The rules are as follows:

Each player chooses 3 cards and the deck is composed of only those 3 cards which start on the players hand.
Each turn follows the very same steps as a regular game with the exception of the draw rule: here you don't loose the game if you have no cards to draw.
Each players faces the other participants in a duel. Like football a victory is awarded with 3 points, a draw with 1 and a loss with 0. The player who gets the higher score wins the round.
On the first round there are no banned cards. Yet, at the end of each round the winner "deck" will get its cards banned until there's a reset. The exception to this banning are basic lands.
There's one game moderator who must be the first to create his deck. Only when his deck is finished can he ask the other participants to submit (through PM so the decks can be secret) their decks. The decklist will be posted once the results are calculated (through simulation).
Other variations are also playable (I favour either 3CB or 5CB).

What do you guys think?

Another idea would be for once in a while one of us to name a card and everyone else either work on a deck around that card or for each to build his own deck around that card and later on see who did the best deck.

What do you think of this?

If you have any other gaming suggestions, please feel free to post.

Another idea I had resolves around Vs. where we pick 2 cards and try to convince others why is one better than the other. For example:

Mog Fanatic Vs. Raging Goblin

Its not who would win the fight but which one do you favour and why.

Thoughts on this?

I don't think I understood the first sugestion's mecanics, sorry

the second one feels quite good I sugest we do it for our next "reunion",

rule sugestions:
4 copies of the card in 40 card deck's to increase it's strategy importance
the chosen card must be common and the deck can't hold any rares

What about the 3rd? Razz

These are supposed to be forum activities. Both the 1st and 3rd at least. The 2nd can be built and posted on the forum and later tasted between us. But the forum part is important since it'll allows folgabil (wherever she might be since she's gone missing again!) to work with us. Smile

Further explanation of the 1st activity:

You name 3 cards that will comprise your deck. These cards go into your hand (you can shuffle, split and draw "7" cards if you want lol!) and then you'll have to face all your opponents. You'll duel each one of them for 2 games. One where you go first and the second... Going second.
Everything plays the same way as regular Magic: everyone has 20 life points, everyone follows the same Magic rules (game phases, mana burn, etc...) and the objective is to win with only those 3 cards, no matter how many turns it'll take you. The only difference is that you won't loose the game if you can't draw a card.

As an example, there are 4 players, the members.

DarkRequiem:
1 Swamp
1 Dark Ritual
1 Hypnotic Specter

Lim-Dul:
1 Plains
1 Isamaru, Hound of Konda
1 Swords to Plowshares

MaJin:
1 Snow-Covered Forest
1 Lotus Petal
1 Boreal Centaur

folgabil:
1 Mountain
1 Keldon Halberdier
1 Greater Gargadon

Each one would play against the others in a total of 6 matches: DR Vs. LD, DR Vs. MJ, DR Vs. fob, LD Vs. MJ, LD Vs. fob & MJ Vs. fob. The games would be simulated always making whatever choice benefited the active player (if there was a coin toss it would be simulated with a win, always) and each Vs. would end with a Win/Loss, a Tie/Tie or a Loss/Win, granting 3 points to the winner, 0 to the looser and 1 for both if tied.
In the end whoever got more points would win the day! Also the cards of the winning deck would be banned and couldn't be used in the following rounds. Furthermore Unhinged and Unglued cards are considered illegal.

Gotcha? Smile

PS - Each deck would remain a secret to the other players, of course and only revealed after simulations were done.
